1.63 ct Madagascar Blue Sapphire, Cushion, Unheated

Madagascar has been one of the most important sapphire sources since the Ilakaka discoveries of the late 1990s, and its better stones sit between Ceylon brightness and the deeper blues of older sources. This cushion is a saturated royal blue with a slight violet secondary hue. In daylight it is rich without being dark; under warm indoor light the tone deepens a little, which is normal for this colour.

No heat has been applied. Unheated sapphires of this quality are a smaller share of the market and trade at a premium over heated equivalents, which is why we had the stone tested by GRS before listing it. It is eye clean; there are faint silk clouds that you can see only under magnification.

This is a good choice for a buyer who wants an untreated centre stone without the price of Kashmir or Burma origin. It will suit a three-stone ring with diamond sides or a simple bezel pendant.
