3.10 ct Ceylon Yellow Sapphire, Cushion, Unheated

Yellow sapphire, known in India as pukhraj, is one of the stones we are asked for most often in Jaipur. This cushion shows a clear canary yellow with no green or brown undertone, the colour most buyers look for. It is bright in daylight and keeps its warmth indoors.

The stone has not been heated. A large share of yellow sapphire is heated to strengthen the colour, and some is beryllium-treated, so for a stone of this size we consider a lab report essential. The GIA report confirms natural corundum with no indications of heating. It is eye clean, with only small needles visible under a loupe.

At just over three carats it fills a ring comfortably and is a sensible size for buyers who wear the stone for astrological reasons. It also works well as a coloured alternative to a fancy yellow diamond, at a fraction of the cost.
