2.61 ct Afghan Indicolite Tourmaline, Emerald Cut, Unheated

Indicolite is the trade name for blue to greenish blue tourmaline. This stone comes from the Nuristan area of eastern Afghanistan, known for bright blue-green crystals. The colour sits between blue and green, a teal that looks bluer in daylight and a little greener under warm light.

Many indicolites are heated to lighten dark crystals, but this one has not been, as confirmed on the IGI report. It is eye clean. Blue tourmaline often looks darker along the length of the crystal, and our cutter has oriented the stone to keep the table bright.

The emerald cut shows off the colour with long, calm flashes rather than sparkle. It would suit a modern east-west ring setting, cufflinks or a bar pendant.
