Zambian emeralds from the Kafubu area tend to have a cooler, slightly bluish green than Colombian stones, with lower iron and good transparency. This emerald cut is a strong example: a vivid green with a blue secondary hue that holds its saturation across the whole stone, without the grey tone that lower grades show.

Almost all emeralds are treated with oil or resin to reduce the visibility of surface-reaching fissures. This stone has been lightly oiled with colourless cedar oil, and the GRS report classes the clarity enhancement as minor, the lowest category. Inclusions are typical of emerald: a few wispy fingerprints visible under a loupe, and a small feather near one corner that you can find face-up if you know where to look.

The step cut suits the material and shows off the colour rather than sparkle. It would make a classic ring with tapered baguettes or a clean four-claw pendant. As with all emeralds, avoid ultrasonic cleaners and ask your jeweller not to steam the stone.
