6.84 ct Brazilian Aquamarine, Emerald Cut, Heated

Aquamarine is valued for its clarity, and large stones with no inclusions at 10x are the norm at the top of the market. This emerald cut from Minas Gerais is one of them: loupe clean, with a medium blue that is noticeably stronger than the pale, washed-out material common in commercial jewellery.

The stone has been gently heated to remove a greenish tint, a stable and standard treatment for aquamarine noted on the IGI report. No other treatment has been used.

The long step cut and clean material produce the hall-of-mirrors effect that emerald cuts are known for. At 14 × 10 mm it is well suited to a cocktail ring or an east-west pendant, and aquamarine is hard enough for regular wear.
